For the past ten years, I have been continuously attempting to create an object using the "Form" feature in Fusion 360, but I have simply not been able to get it to work correctly. It would be extremely useful to me if Fusion 360 provided adequate support for this functionality; however, they seem content with merely developing and releasing the software without properly addressing how it is actually utilized in practice—and frankly, I fail to see what purpose it serves if it cannot be used effectively.

Can you share your attempt in .f3d format and perhaps an image of what you are trying to create?

Thanks for asking. Have you seen the learning portal? There are a bunch of tutorials available for anyone learning Fusion.

https://www.autodesk.com/learn/ondemand/course/freeform-modeling

I work on Fusion as a QA and teach Fusion at the local college. We create a couple projects with the Form environment during the term.

A skateboard deck is pretty well defined by Form, and kind of hard to do with regular modeling.

Rubber bike grips is another.

I also personally like modeling with it. I create reproductions of classic airplanes, and mechanical things I think of. I'll attach some images of these examples.

Hi! There is always room for improvement in every product. Fusion isn't an exception. As Peter mentioned here, please share an example here. We would like to understand the Form modeling difficulty better, so that we see how it can be further improved.

Many thanks!

Let's clarify this here: a humanoid robot. You want the entire model in one single T-Spline? or multiple separate parts to make the humanoid robot. Do you have any past attempts we can see so we can see what you've tried doing and any references so we get an idea of your end goal, such as a reference photo or dimensions of this humanoid robot? While I only use forms to model smaller handheld objects, being more of a "build it in panels" person, this project sounds like one that would require a lot of time dedicated to it. Can we know the end goal - for example whether this is for visual's only or whether this is being 3D printed?

Like this very questionable Iron Man helmet above.

Dear Autodesk Team,

When I finish a product, the file becomes correct. However, when I reopen it, the file is not editable as expected. Can I simply convert a mesh object into a form? Only then does its structure become correct. But when we create a mesh in the software, the model (for example, a T-shirt or surface form) is heavily affected.

The file initially works correctly, but later it cannot be properly opened or edited. In practice, many smaller software solutions avoid these issues and work more reliably, even some open-source tools that do not require payment.

However, Autodesk, being such a large and experienced company, should have anticipated these problems. With so many years in this field, it is expected that common user challenges and workflow issues would already be addressed. If not, it gives the impression that user experience is not being prioritized.

It is very difficult to continue using this software after paying for it. I am facing many challenges during regular use. While some features are very good, many others still need improvement.

I am sharing this feedback for your benefit. I am not raising this only for myself, but to highlight real user difficulties. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss these issues in a live conversation if possible.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Gnana Sekar

Can you share one of these files? I'm happy to take a look.

Converting mesh to form is easy, if the mesh is an OBJ with quad faces. Otherwise, no triangle mesh doesn't convert to Form, which uses quad faces.

Since you are a paying customer, what does Customer Support tell you about your problems?
