Not running on El Capitan beta 2

GRSnyder
Collaborator
Collaborator

After updating my OS installation to OS X 10.11 "El Capitan" beta 2, Fusion 360 will no longer start up. It just shows an "application has encountered an unexpected authentication error and must be quit" message. Is this a known issue?

I did not install beta 1 of El Capitan, so I don't know if this issue is new with beta 2.

Please let me know if any additional information or logging would be helpful.

Same problem here with El Cap public beta - 10.11 Beta (15A215h).

It is possiple to make some quick drawings and create objects. But due to the SSL/TLS auth errors, there is no possibilty to work productively.

I would reccomand to switch to Parallels Deskop (run Yosemite or Windown into a VM)

or

keep waiting until Autodesk's Fusion 360 Development team could fix there backend infrastucture.

At least, those SSL/TLS integrety errors, cause of including http scripts into https requests, on a website like this are a shame. What kind of SSL cert authority do you have at Autodesk? Why are those other companies and domins listed in you're cert? It's the biggest failure ever since. Try Discourse a discussion system. That's 1000x better than this rented crap.

Kind regrads,

Markus

Next time if its your work machine, best to wait for final OS release as its likely some software will not play nice during the beta stage.

Dear all,

I think this kind of comments are beyond the point, to my knowledge the reason why people is posting here is to try finding potential problems of the current Fusion 360 on it’s interaction with the future OS X, so, by the time it rolls out, everyone can update without a problem. I believe that’s the whole point of beta testing, and someone has to do it.

So let’s try to focus on finding those problems and see how can we help Autodesk’s developers find solutions.

Best regards

Yep, we don't want to find out after the beta that it's not working, we want to try and find the solution now before everyone starts upgrading to 10.11 so that when they do, it's already been addressed and fixed! 🙂

What makes you believe that there is no beta testing going on ?

It was already mentioned that they were aware of the issue.

Thanks @TrippyLighting.  Yes, we tested with El Capitan the day the first beta was available.  We had one issue on Beta1 that was resolved in the release of Beta2, however a new issue occurred in Beta 2.  This issue has been difficult for us to resolve because some of our network calls simply fail.  There are some changes in this area in El Capitan and we are working to understand how to solve the issue, this is why the fix has been delayed.  We have someone working on it full-time right now and I will update this thread when a fix is available.

Thank you,

Kris Berg

I’m aware you are working in the problem, so, only as a FYI, in El Capitan public Beta 3, it still doesn’t work. I’m confident you will find a solution soon (before the oficial release in the fall for sure), so I can only praise the great work the Fusion 360 team has been doing since the first release. I haven’t seen any other CAD software which has evolved so much.

Have you considered doing a completely on-cloud version? In a Onshape fashion? It could be nice, particularly being able to work on an iPad (since the new ones got so much power).

I have a second question, will Metal API change anything for Fusion 360 users?

Best regards

Exactly! Theres a reason why its called beta and its fine reporting bugs but its another to ask developer to fix the bugs while the OS is in beta itself. And as I mentioned, if having Fusion (or any software) to run for productivity/work, one should refrain from using any OS while its in beta.

Nice idea regarding onshape fashion but unless they have extra resources, i felt they should just focus on adding those backlog features, stability improvement, and performance optimization before undertaking in another big project like onshape.

Regarding second question, i believe it was mentioned that they're evaluating it, if anything i expect we'll only see this improvement in the time span of a year, i doubt adding metal api is as easy as we hope so with complex application like Fusion. Though im really looking forward to a performance boost in regards of large assembly, right now even my outdated SolidEdge ST5 run circles around Fusion when it comes to large assembly performance

@Anonymous yes, we are actively working on a Fusion web client.  I cannot commit to a timeline at this point as there is lot of exploration needed to make sure we have a long term sustainable web platform.  Our intent has always been to have a desktop, web and mobile client as per our anytime, anywhere access vision.  BTW, we have a mobile client to access your projects, data to view, markup, comment and collaborate.  We don't have model editing capabilities in the mobile client at this point.

@O.Tan don't worry about the focus on backlong features, stability and performance on getting diluted.  We are adding additonal resources for the web client.

Yes, but if you do need to work, re-installing yosemite takes less than two hours.

Hi @Anonymous,

I know it is frustrating to wait.  Let me just give you a status of where we are with El Capitan.  We fixed one issue in the latest update which caused Fusion 360 to crash on El Capitan. There is still one major issue related to networking.  We entered a defect with Apple, which they have closed.  My understanding is a fix is coming soon in El Capitan, however I don't have an exact ETA.  I keep checking for updates about every hour, just hoping...    In house, we have worked around the issue and continue to test and fix issues on El Capitan.  I will repost as soon as Apple releases the fix.

Thank you,

Kris Berg
