NOOB alert, I'm brand new to Fusion 360 and I'm having fits over some files

I'm brand new to Fusion 360 and cad/cam in general. I have a 4'x8' CNC router I built to make some wall art & signs. I think if I can get the Image2Surface to work I can get up and running, but my files are locking up my program and NOTHING is happening. I think I've downloaded the program & add on correctly and I can select a grey scale file then NOTHING happens and I have to reboot to even close the program. What am I missing??? I was able to open these files in CAMBAM with their "Height Map Generator". I'll try to attach my images I've tried. Thank you in advance for any help.

Hey, me again! I don't know if it makes a difference, but I wanted to add a little more info on what I have in mind. I want to make these images out of 2" thick foam board and the images to be about 3'-4' tall or wide. I don't know if that info is helpful to answering my questions. What kind of settings should I try to get decent (or any) results. Thank you again!

Hi,

Welcome to the Fusion forum!

Are you planning to cut the outer profile and apply 2D art to the flat face? Or do you want to convert these images to a 3D model with some kind of automatic height for all the color tones, and then CNC that into the foam?

Thanks,

thank you for the reply! I'd like to make 3D (or 2.5D) reliefs with the color tones generating the depth. I would also like to ad a .stl file to cut the profiles with some holding tabs. Do you think there's a problem with my files? I imagine I'd like to use a 1/8" ball nose bit with a 1/16" step over and see how that looks. Do you think I need to start off learning how to do 2D work first and then work my way into the color tone 3D? Thank you for any help

Unfortunately I am the wrong person to ask about this. It might be better posed on the CAM forum, where actual machinists may have solved this workflow already. I mainly asked for clarity because there are other similar workflows, with less detail as I mentioned (2D contouring), and you deserve an answer.

Also, I like the art from a cultural perspective so the post was tempting. 🙂 So I apologize for not knowing the answer, but hopefully we can get you pointed in the right direction.

Just a friendly tip: if you post in the CAM page, a title like "Help converting images to 3D relief" or some such language might attract the right helper(s) sooner.

In the meantime, perhaps someone on the modeling page here knows the answer and will chime in on the thread here.

Thanks, good luck and please let me know if I can help any more (than this admittedly minuscule amount).
