Non Uniform Bevel Question

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a design in Fusion 360 and I’m having trouble creating a specific curve using the Loft tool. I’ve tried several approaches, but I can’t seem to get the form I’m looking for.

I’ve attached the profile (SVG file) I’m working with, as well as an image showing how the form should look from the side view. If anyone has any suggestions or knows of another tool that might work better for this type of shape, I would greatly appreciate your input.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi,

After playing with Split Body and various Planes, the nearest I can get to it is this.

Close but no Cigar!

The problem I am having is that the picture you supplied keeps turning into one of those Escher drawings that

change perspective as you look at them.

While I "may" be on the right track, I am beginning to think that without some more information that the best way

will be a loft. You know what the profile will be at the low end - a rectangle. You know that your inner rail at least

will be circular. The centre profile is what you are aiming at. Maybe doing a loft but only half a loft and a mirror

might get closer to what you want.

I also tried a simple cylinder object and sliced off various bits at various angles and then chamferred the edges and

also got close, but still not close enough.

Cheers

Andrew

Fusion does not play well with imported svg.

Once I traced the curves, was a couple of Lofts to get there.

No, start at the beginning of the timeline, step along to see what each step does, Edit the Feature to see the settings.

Happy to answer questions if stuck.

Hi Dave,

Yes, I went through the steps, didn't get when it turn from Solid to Surface. Why do we have to switch to the surface? I kept trying to Loft it from profiles to profiles in Solid. It just doesn't work....And I have never really create anything in Surface, that's the part that I got really confused. Thanks for answering.

Surface to solid - is a normal convention.  Why do we have to switch to the surface?

Surface modelling allows more forgiving treatment for the Loft Rules, making smaller segments to build the shape.

For a solid Loft, can be done, but as Andew said, there was no convincing evidence of what is right, see my last sketch.  Choice there but the top line creates more drama for the top outside rail,

Solid Loft has to be done as 2 sections, divided by my last sketch, and 4 rails each.  When using Rails, an inconvenient Rule (All Rails must connect to all profiles) means that the sketch 3 Y branch will have to be reconstructed, for 2 overlapping curves at the low inside end, prefer to avoid that.

Edit, I managed a one-piece Loft, by stitching the surfaces for Rail 2

Hi Dave,
I have just tried in Solid, doesn't look as good as using Surface...I will keep practicing when I have time. And also, for Surface, can I later turn it into solid form? Thank you.

Sorry, not sure I get that - my solid Loft, using the same input as surface Lofts would - will be identical.

Surfaces can be Thickened.

Enclosures created with various surfaces, if watertight, will convert to solids when Stitched.

A combination of surfaces and other construction that can form a void, then that will be a Boundary Fill. (first version)

I have a few days left to review your file, if you wish.
