Non Solid Body Help Needed Please

HI All,

Is anymone able to help I am trying to create a 2d drawing of a design in fusion, but one if the components has been given to me and doesnt contain solid bodies so is invisible on the 2d drawing.

I am having major trouble trying to convert the component to a solid body. Stitch doesnt seem to work, and neither does thicken.

This is a common problem for us when we get given 3d models of items which are exported from solidworks.

If anyone can help I would be extremely grateful.

Ok I looked at your file and to be honest this is a nightmare. It is possible to stitch each part together once you find all the pieces that make each part, but I would never work this way.

So I have a question, What format are they sending you the files in?

The SolidWorks user has used a "shrinkwrap" type functionality to simplify the geometry - most likely to protect intellectual property.

This has resulted in many missing surfaces in your model. 

Autodesk Inventor will allow you to create 2D drawings using the surface body.

Thanks but I don't have inventor. I don't need to see the internals just have an outline drawing of the outside really.

The drawing was sent in STP file format.

Perhaps this is something the Fusion guys could lack at changing on the 2d drawings side so it registers non solid bodies like inventor seems to on the example you sent above.

I do have a 2d DXF file of the same item so the temporary fix may be to export my design to a 2d drawing in Fusion, export this to cad format, open in autocad Lt and then overlay the drawing of this pump on top.

Its a long winded way of doing it but for now its a temporary solution.

Sometimes I can get away with using the Patch or Model, Create > Boundary Fill command to generate a solid body (in lieu of Inspect > Validate or Patch > Modify > Stitch), but there are too many holes in this model to patch up! 

Did you test opening any different file format like SAT or the Solidworks files? Perhaps a different file format would have better results..
