Non-regular cut out between two edges?

Hello everyone,

there is one thing (the rounded support bars along the model) in a STL file that I'm trying to re-model that I simply can't reproduce (although I think I know how to sweep now ;)). I tried sweeping along paths and surfaces but still, can't redraw it. I'll show what exactly I mean.

Section AnalysisSection AnalysisBack Side ViewBack Side ViewAs you can see above the cut out ends nicely on the edge of the two surfaces in the back and the front and nicely grows into the model.

Kind regards

Maciej

Aren't this just fillets?

I don't mean the fillets. I mean the way the bridges go to the edge between two planes. I think it might be loft because I have no idea how else you could say that the extrude should end exactly at the edge.

You need to create the internal space, with surface bodies,

then the body can be Combine Cut out of your Component.

There are fillets on only the outside edge.

The Mesh body is so hard to work with, I have been getting way low performance, and crashes.

OK, now I need to know what a surface body is (sorry, beginner here ;)). Is it something sketched in 3D instead of a 2D sketch + extrude? And then you apply a loft, like in the following video?

Yes and No...

No lofts - just Extrude and fillets.

Surface models are made with sketch curves, (not profiles,) in Patch area,

this was done with 3 extrudes, new sketch to make the inside shape of the top of the hole,

cttrbdy1.PNG

then another two extrudes for the back and bottom of the hole,

cttrbdy2.PNG

then trim the shape down to size,

Stitch the edges, so the Fillets will work properly.

Close the open holes and then stitch again, becomes a solid version of the holes' shape.

then move into your body and combine Cut the hole in your body.
