Non-intuitive Joint limits

Am I alone in finding Joint Limits very non-intuitive?

I modelled a lever that rotates an axle, but want to set limits on the rotation. When I invoke "Edit Joint Limits" the window displays fields for Minimum and Maximum values, but relative to what? Where is the 0 deg position?

It's not possible to tick the Min alone; they must both be on or off. Ideally I'd like to be able to tick Min then rotate the axle to one limit (or set a meaningful value), then untick Min, tick Max, and rotate to the other limit. Then press OK.

How is it supposed to work?

I checked for previous  queries about joint limits and found one from a person who had the same experience as me, from a few years ago. Somebody responded saying they would look into it, but nothing happened.

I found a couple of YouTube videos on the subject. They both basically ended up by setting limits by trial and error.

Does nobody else have this problem with setting the limits?

It is trial and error for me as well.

I don't find it that confusing? 0 is the initial position of the joint when created.

Not sure why its not intuitive for you.  When I click it I get two little flags on the joint and I can just drag the one thats pointed the direction I want to change the limit for.  If I need more precise adjustment I can enter it numerically.

Hey @lemelman ,

This is how I do it:

Tip #1: I use the Drive Joints to manually find the limits.

Tip #2: I sometimes use the Contact set to find the limits as well (Don't forget to turn it off when you are done!)

I hope it helps.

You are not alone.  Not intuitive at all. In fact, I found them so non-intuitive that I typed "non-intuitive joint limits fusion 360" and came directly to this thread. Fortunately, some nice people here explained how they work and I'm good now -- till I forget and have to search for this thread again.
