New UI suggestions

The new UI is probably made to be smarter, but it just adds yet another navigation layer. I think it is made with the "tabs" (that are not tabs but only words spread out) so it is easier to change between solid, metal sheet and surface. But the other modes are still in the drop down. And what is worse - now you have to do extra clicks to navigate to Assemble and Tools, which you use all the time in all environments  and the areas ("tab"-names) to click are super small. I wouldn't like you to increase the size, since that would steal screen real-estate. In general the "ribbon" design (invented by Microsoft with office) is flawed. Most screens nowadays are wide screens, meaning there barely is any height, than then software puts huge menues at the top. Menus should be on the side instead or just be good old-fashioned drop-down menus. And then enable the user to drag the width of the vertical menu (as in old Adobe Photoshop software) so they can decide how many items it can fit on their screen

Assemble and Tools should always be visible. Or in general it should be possible to pin tabs, so depending on your screen size you could keep all visible if you like.

There should be keyboard shortcuts to the tabs - e.g., ALT + 1,2,3,4 or 5

So:

1) Please don't make the menus more convoluted by hiding assemble and tools away

2) Enable menus to go to the left side of the screen to save vertical height.

3) You should REALLY fix some of the heavily requested improvements before reshuffling the UI:

  • a) The parameter functionality - 1) Modal box that can be open all the time, 2) sortable, 3) a lot of the other requests concerning that in the forums
  • b) timeline improvements (scrolling, selecting multiple components to show only, dependencies)
  • c) browser tree improvements (re-enable re-ordering)
  • d) Sketches and projections (I know you are working on something at the moment)

There are SO MANY much more important things to fix than putting lipstick on that only slows people down.

PS: FYI  @Phil.E 🙂
