I am a rank newbie and trying to create a Cabinet side. When I get the sketch done and selt all of it then go to "Create New Component" it appears translucent, not the Gray color I would expect. See Below

This could be a variety of things.  Take a look at the Screencast and see if the ones I mention help.

this is completely normal. whenever you create a new component it is automatically switched on. this means that all non-active components become translucent in the transparency. no matter if there is color on it or not. if you always want to see everything then activate the very first components at the top.

John,

I checked the 3 items and they appeared to be correct. I have tried to follow along with a tutorial on You Tube and when he mirrored the side of the cabinet, both were the dark grey color. I am starting from scratch again, it will give me practice and maybe I can figure out what I am doing wrong.

Post the link to the Youtube video you are using.  Maybe that will give a hint the Forum users.

As @mango.freund has already pointed out, I think you are seeing the effects of the Preference setting "Active component visibility".  The Screencast will explain.

On another subject, when posting a Reply to another person's post, always select the "Reply" icon on that person's post.  This addressed you post to that person, not to yourself.  When more than one person is replying, it is nice to know the one you are addressing.

Yes, I followed what you said in the video and it worked, I didn't understand what @mango.freund was saying I guess.

Thanks for the assistance, both of you.

I have used SketchUp in the past but I can see the advantages to using Fusion 360 with the parametric dimensions.

Thanks Again

Dave

Please go back and read "On another subject..." section.  It is important that you start following this recommendation when you post to the Forum.  It defines who you are addressing as of right now, you are addressing yourself.

Got it, I can see how confusing that must have seemed.

Like I said, I am a rank newbie but expect I will be spending a lot of time here and searching for solutions and guidance from seasoned veterans such as the 2 of you.

Thanks again

Dave
