How can I elongate the slot while maintaining the width? Can I snap the ends to a point? Thanks!

I'm not sure how you constructed that but it looks like it might explode if you try modifying it. It would have been a lot easier if you'd used the slot tool.

Wow, that was easier. However, when I dimension the slot, one of my construction lines moves. Why is that?
You will need to fully constrain everything or stuff like that will happen. You could try adding a collinear constraint between the 2 construction lines at that end but if the other line and lines around it are not constrained you might find others move.
Try going to your preferences and enabling constraint status colouring under preview to give you an idea which lines are constrained.

I drew another slot, but this time I can't seem to get the center to stay constrained. Whenever I increase the dimension, the slot grows in one direction. Which constraints and where are needed in order to get the slot to grow from the center?
Thanks!
