Need help w/ my first Fusion 360 design.

Hi,

This is my first time designing in Fusion 360. I have used Sketchup before, but I am new to parametric CAD. I have a problem that I cannot find a solution to.

I have the following assembly - the two legs are free to rotate about the bolt.

I need the selected point to be 12" from and perpendicular to the selected edge in the y-axis:

model1.png

Here is the sketch for that component:

sketch.png

However, I cannot get this point in the sketch to line up with this point in the component:model2.png

I am assuming you cannot constrain a sketch to parts of another body/component? If so, then what is a better way to achieve my goal?

You can constrain to anything that exists, in some way or another.

You are not clear with which point won't go.

We can demonstrate in your file if exported and attached here.

Have the file, and I am still not knowing what (1)

you need to line up to (2)

Can you describe (1)

and (2).Please?

I want to align the intersection of the construction lines in the Leg sketch with the corner of the Board component, both indicated by the arrows below:

I realize that may not necessarily be the best way to do it, so here is another approach:

How can I use the horizontal construction line to slice the body of the legs?

Thanks,

There are solutions, with the 12 inch radius, Not looked at the other cut solution.

because the board is later in the timeline than the leg, activate the leg,

create a new sketch, on the end of the timeline,

project the leg sides and the top board corner into the new sketch,

draw a 12inch radius circle, and trim to the leg sides, now you connect those two points with a line, make another line (longer one),

parallel to this short line and tangent to the radius. The one you are looking for.

now that you have the setting out, you can measure and edit the first leg sketch to conform with you new information.

I don't understand. How can I conform the first leg sketch to the new measurements if the new measurements come later in the timeline?

Control C,

copy the new black lines in sketch 2,

Edit Sketch 1, in the Leg, and

Control V, (paste) those lines into the sketch, make construction the old line, and use the new line for the profile.
