Need help chamfering edges of 8mm thick text

Trying to Chamfer all edges of the text to appear like the old style number plates, want to Chamfer the front edges of the text by 4mm (ideally with an angle, but trying to chamfer normally to begin with), but it throws an error when I try and do it!

 

Any help would be much appreciated 🙂

 

Also I believe I have added the right file type!

The first thing I ALWAYS check are the imported curves.  It's always the imported curves that cause problems like this. (well, 95% of the time anyway).  The screen cast shows that the profile is funky in a lot of places, and also that it's made of a bunch of little short straight lines instead of curves (which is why you can't put a curvature comb on it, that what I was trying to do in the second half of screen cast).

 

The rule of thumb is imported curves are always garbage, and should always be redrawn with native fusion curves before using them to do any 3d operations.  This is a great example of why.

Okay so how do I change the lines to be native to autodesk fusion??

 

Would like to know if there is a way to convert instead of manually drawing around it with spline?

There are several ways to go about converting.  They are all work arounds, because the functionality doesn't exist directly in the fusion.  But there isn't an easy way.   I would probably use straight lines and arcs to recreate this.

 

Have you checked to see if that font is already in fusion?

Hi it was an imported font, so not available from fusion normally but its a font I installed on my computer

you should be able to access any font installed on your computer.  this link might help-

Hi yes i am able to use the font, as that is how I made the original file I posted. What I would like to know is how to use the font which I have extruded up 8mm in order to chamfer it 4mm along the edges.

wait, that's what the font looks like when you use the text tool in fusion?  You didn't import a SVG or some such from a different program?

That may be the most poorly constructed font I've ever seen.  My advise would be to draw these by hand.  Or find a better font.

Clean up all of the curved surfaces and everything will chamfer.

I'd start a new component, then a new sketch.  I think the fillet tool would be my first choice, but three point arcs or splines would work as well.   In the screencast, I used the sketch fillet tool, but you could just draw all of the letters using straight lines, then fillet the corners after they are extruded.
