Naming of items, don't find setting, missing something ?

Hi all, I am quite new with F360, so I think it is just a hidden setting, which I am too stupid 🙂 to find.

When I create an item, e.g. a line, circle, but also a feature, I cannot give it a name. E.g. "Baseline for XY", "Extrusion of something". And afterwise search for it. It is also very strange, but surely caused by my poor brain: When I create a sketch, I only find the option to rename it after creation. Even more confusing: If I start creating a sketch, how can I abort/esc ?. There is only a "finish sketch" button, which creates a sketch, which I then need to search in the tree for deletion.

I guess there is a simple solution for this basic topic....please let me know. Thanks for your help, forum 🙂

Hi,

For this purpose there are the parameters. There you can define user parameters and give them name and value.

A sketch can be renamed or deleted only if you are not in sketch edit mode.

Thanks Guenther, but probably I did not describe exactly. Maybe an example helps.

I create a sketch, then draw e.g. a spline. This spline represents something in my sketch, e.g. the "housing main curvature". Where would I assign this name to this object ? I cannot find the field to enter the name e.g. for later searching or keeping the overview. I am coming from other CADprogs, where I can give each item a reference name. I know custom parameters in fusion, which I can use for dimensioning.

I did not find this function for features yet also. So I need to piggy step through the timeline, click each item and see what becomes highlighted in the UI.

Hope and guess there is some setting I missed, because otherwise it would be a nightmare to orientate, especially when you work on a shared project.

Regarding the sketch: are you saying, that there is no option to name a sketch during creation ? Or abort a sketch ?

I am a bit scared... 🙂

Welcome to Fusion 360.

Exactly where (other CADprogs) are you coming from?

I’ve heard of Onshape.

Never heard of *Solid* is that a subset of Onshape or did you mean SolidEdge?

Hey CadWhisperer, thanks, but to stay with the topic, we can open a separate thread or pers to discuss.

Hey Guenther, yep, that's how it looks like. appreciate your quick answer anyway. Just figured out the same for Inventor. A bit like a city map without street names :-), but probably I am thinking the wrong way and there is some other, maybe better logic behind, which I am too stupid to find 🙂

You can abort a sketch using Undo. If you've created some curves click the down arrow next to the undo and select the Create Sketch feature from the list.

Jei 🙂 Thanks. Not as simple as an abort button, but a solution.

Hi,

The naming of lines is not meaningful in the sense of the construction. Named are e.g. length, width, height, diameter XX and can thus be listed under their individual name and assignment in the parameter list.
