multiple construction plane issue

I seem to be running into an issue where I have created several parallel construction planes, separated along a common axis I am maintaining for ease of component alignment later. I am creating sketch geometry (lines and rectangles) on a selected construction plane, but the geometry keeps appearing on the same incorrect plane. I made the planes with different size outlines to make certain they are distinguishable, and they are separated by some easily seen distances in any case. I'm completely baffled by this behavior. I have tried creating the lines in the plane from both ends of the common axis, and always end up with everything going to the wrong plane.

Any ideas? I attached a file for examination. The geometry that is appearing on the far face of the circular object should actually be on the larger construction plane at the other end of the common axis.

You can hide all the planes except the one you want to sketch on.

Thanks for the note, Trippy. That (maybe) is the workaround, but I'm certainly interested in why this is occurring. It seems like things were working "normally" earlier in the modeling, but somehow now the process isn't happening correctly. Have you done this sort of plane-stacking and run into similar issues?

An Autodesk Screencast recording of the issue might help with troubleshooting the problem. You can download and install Screencast from the below website.

If I had to guess, I suspect that your sketch is snapping to other sketches located in the other planes. Try unselecting the "Allow 3D sketching of lines and splines" option in the Design panel of the Preferences.

Does this change the behavior you're seeing?

Thanks,

Nate,

Thanks for the response. I don't have enough detailed info yet to understand the behavior; the deselection of 3D sketching didn't seem to make any difference in the more limited sketch activity I have been doing in this model most recently, but I need to be somewhat more rigorous in my testing. The problem is of course the time to do that. I have some other issues with the model right now, referenced in a thread about crashing with use of Split Body. I did download the Screencast application; looks like it can be very useful. Thanks again --

Did you have a chance to record the behavior you're experiencing? It would be really helpful in understanding what you're seeing. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help!

Thanks,
