Multi-color STLs for 3D Printing

So the multi-color FDM printing revolution is very much on the near horizon (see the Prometheus system and Prusa's new multi-color system for example) and i'm wondering if Fusion 360 is equipped to create new models for this.

I know that to make multi-color prints, the user needs to create nested, individual STL's for each color.  For more "engineering" type products, i imagine this isn't too hard with exporting individual bodies as their own STLs, but i'm not sure how to make something like this cat.

Can Fusion 360 do stuff like this?  I know there is the split feature by plane and other bodies, but what about more custom applications?

More examples of these models here: http://www.3ders.org/articles/20160310-top-30-best-dual-extruder-multicolor-3d-prints.html

@Anonymous - thanks for the detailed post. You're correct that multi-material printing is the next big thing. We do not have a way to do this in Fusion today, but it is a project that we are evaluating for next year. Keep your eyes peeled on the Roadmap Blog to find out when it gets on the near-term roadmap.

Thanks,

@Anonymous

I have done many multicolor and multi material print models in Fusion exported them to the 3d print software and printed them.
