Moving models from one project to the next

So I got the latest update this morning, and now I can't take files from one project and input them into another by means of a component.

I'm building 4th axis fixturing that I'll be using for a variety of different machine jobs and would like to use them as a standard, but I cannot use the "save as" function, "copy" or simply drag and drop.

I did manage to get one model from another project to drop in, but not the other way around.  However, after it came onto the screen, no amount of manipulating would allow me to move in the normal methods once it got onto the screen.

I selected the component in the browser, as well as independently to no avail.  It simply was acting like it was "grounded" even though it was not.

I've never had this issue before, until today.

Hmm, I noticed this was 7 hours ago.

Have you tried restarting the whole computer? Sometimes after an update, Fusion has some anomalies which is fixed from a software restart and sometimes a hardware restart.

Yes I did try that and have successfully managed to get some items to go into one project from another, but not the other way around.
Closed everything down and was able to get it to move again as it should, but it's still being buggy.

Hmm, I wonder why no AD employee is responding to your issue

I would like to have access to your project so I can work directly with your data. Do you mind? If not, you can invite phil dot eichmiller at autodesk dot com and I'll look into this today.

Thanks,

I'd rather not relinquish some of these files, as they are proprietary and confidential, but I'm still having a problem of being able to "save as" and simply take a file that I've created for one project and move it to another.

I went onto 360 Drive and was able to copy one part from its original project to another, but it would not allow me to move an entire assembly.

I'm still at a loss as to why this is not working.

I can't imagine how anything could get anymore basic than doing a "save as", renaming the file, and then placing it into another project.

If I try "export", it wants to convert it to a step, iges, etc., which is not what I'm after.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you invite Phil to the project by using his email that will allow him and only him to look at the data directly in the cloud.

Totally understand if you don't want to give access to your project.

Currently linked files cannot be "save as" into another project. This is going to change soon, but not today or this month.

Can you confirm that the design you are trying to copy has linked designs in the browser?

If so, you can:

  1. Break the links
  2. or download the entire archive (export Fusion Archive)  from A360 and upload it to another project

It was the archive method that finally did the trick.

Thank you.

I do look forward to this being improved in the future, but will plug along with this method for now.

The Arcive methid has one caveat in that it does not save the version history of the files that are archived

@Phil.E pls let me know if I am wring.

@TrippyLighting

That is absolutely correct. The archive method creates a unique copy and starts everything at V1.

Hi

I have been just using this thread to transfer a linked model, but have noticed the design references are not archived. I have 30 odd drawings referenced to the model - how do I transfer these to a new project?

Regards

Nick
