Move a sculpt body to a component?

I'm just starting to use components to organize my work. I've made a nice sculpt body, but it shows in the root workspace.  I'd like it to live in a component.  Dragging and dropping in the browser does not do anything. I can move the converted body just fine.

Thanks!

Hi Jamie,

Have you tried to copy and past the sculpted body into the component that you are interested in?  If you copy it from the root, then activate the component that you want it to be part of and paste, you will have duplicates of the sculpt.  You could then delete the original if the copy is doing what you want.  There might be some limitations to this based on what you want to do with the sculpted body, but it might be just this simple.  Let me know if that works.

Jamie,

A few questions.

The T-Spline body highlighted (upper highlight) in your image is the body you are trying to move?

Is it the same body as the one highlighted below after conversion?

This might be too simple, but try clicking the finish form button before you try to move the body.

Hi Sachlene,

Thanks!  Yes, the T-spline body is the one I am trying to move/copy? Yes, it is highlighted below after conversion. I can drag/drop the B-rep face to the component but not the T-spline.

When I click "finish form" the T-spline disappears and the Brep appears. I can move the Brep to the component but when I try and edit the T-spline again the T-spline shows up in the root.

Maybe it does not make sense to organize my work with components in this way, but it seems like the T-spline and its corresponding Brep should be allowed to exist in the same component?

Here's a try at a screencast:

when I choose finish form, the T-spline disappears.

Hi James,

Thanks a lot for the suggestion! I tried copy/paste.  The "paste" part seems to be unavailable outside of the Sculpt environment, and does not paste anything into the component (I can't activate the component within the sculpt environment). I pasted 5 copies of my original design, but they don't want to exist anwhere but where they were created.

Here is an attempt at a screencast:

https://screencast.autodesk.com/Embed/Timeline/30394ece-a7b5-4c0f-b5a0-70f8217094d9

Copy/paste works within the sculpt environment, but not between the root and a component.  I don't necessarily need to organize my work this way, but it would be nice to isolate each sculpted part of the bicycle (headtube lug, bottom bracket lug, seattube lug, etc).

thanks!

You can copy and paste Sculpt bodies as a whole or just portions of the body by using copy and paste commands. The key thing is to copy while in the Sculpt Environment and to Paste while in another Form/Sculpt Environment. To move between components, you must activate the component and then use Create Form to re-enter the Sculpt Environment prior to selecting Paste.

I've made a Screencast, below that I think will help explain this:

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Thanks,

Hi Nathan,

That was exactly the issue. Problem solved. Can I suggest adding your screencast to the learning material on components?

Thanks!
