Move a body in to a box

Hi!
I'm brand new to this whole CAD-thing and i'm learning every time i'm opening up the program. I bought a 3D-printer a while ago and figured that i could use it to make mold-masters for my fishing lures. So, i painted up a tail that's supposed to look like a original tail to one of my soft baits, and i'm pretty happy with the result. Now, here comes the question.

Is it possible to move this whole body in to the box, so that i could pour silicone in it and make a soft bait?

You can do that, with the Move Tool, 

 

better to make the box in the correct location.

Even better will be to cut the body shape out of the internals of the box, with Combine Cut.

 

Hide the moulded part with Eyeballs and then make the box cuts for disassembly as well.

You can see the process of making a mold @davebYYPCU is describing in the video attached to this blog article.  You can watch the complete video to grasp the complete idea of making a separable mold for your lures or you can do to timestamp 2:44 and see the Combine Cut operation.  You are going to have to have some way of opening your mold to get your lure out so I would suggest you watch the complete video.

Thing that you are trying to do is creation of mold. 

1. You find out the mirror line of the part (if your part is symmetrical)

2. Scale your part by scale command. In every type of molding the material shrinks after cool down. The scale factor is equal to the shrinkage factor of the material.

3. That line is called parting line. Now you make a box. Use move commant to put the boz face just upto that line. Then use combaine tool to substract.

It's a really nice guide, but I have problems creating Plane through Edges. I don't understand where i'm supposed to create edges. In the guide, he is using what seems to be the bottom line of his model, but my tail has no bottom line to use. I could try to create it from top, but then the split-body function seems to fail. If i try to create it in the middle of the sketch, the plane doesnt get straight. But maybe that doesnt matter? Everything else seems to work. I'll probably have to just try and do it, and then print it out in 2 parts and se how it works.

In your case the parting line would be vertical on centre.

MidPlane, or Origin Plane if used for symmetry.
