Modifying an existing grabcad model and making a clam shell to fit a rifle.

I would like to modify this FG42 model to fit this .22LR Ruger 10/22 action.

Essentially i need to modify the FG42 top receiver to make it wide enough (1.5 inches).

It would be like a clam shell so the internal part of the top receiver would be just a solid shell to hold the entire action in place.

I would then like to get this 3D printed in PLA and cold cast it.

I'm thinking of having to measure out the 10/22 action, save it as a body and then do an intersect to the FG42 upper receiver.

Cool project!

I'd love to help but since i'm not a rifle "expert" i didn't understand what parts you're trying to fit where (i.e. i don't know what's a top receiver, at least in english). Maybe try pointing out that better and people here will be more able to help.

Best regards,

Here's a Pulse Rifle that I completed using a 2 piece clam shell that i modified.

I had to dremel off plastics inside to put in the .22LR action/barrel inside.  i had to use epoxy putty to help bed the rifle so it wont move around.

Id like to do the same where I'm creating a hollow shell inside of the 3D model above

So it's a negative space of a 2 piece clam shell

Like i sayd before, i don't know a thing about rifles, unfortunatelly we only have these things in videogames or tv here...

From what i understood your problem is you have a solid model you want to turn into a two piece shell (If that's not the problem, maybe you can explain it better).

To do so you can create a construction plane in the middle of the solid model, use the split body command using this plane so you'll have two solid pieces. Then you can use the shell command to make these solids hollow.

After or before that you can use the scale command to make them bigger or smaller respecting all sizes of the model so it'll fit what you want. All these commands are in "modify" in the model environment. Maybe the presse/pull command can be useful here too.

I think you can import them into fusion and modify them freely.
