Modify Supplied Model

Hello,

I am trying to modify and CAM a model that was supplied by someone else.  The features that I add are not editable and there is no time line.  What am I missing that I need to do to make the model workable like when I design something from scratch?

Yes, an imported model will not come with design features/history.  All imported data comes in as a direct model.  You can still modify it, though, using Move Faces, Press/Pull, adding new geometry, etc.  You just cannot edit features the same way you can in a history-based design.

As jeff said, imported models come in with out history.  So you start in DM mode.  I would suggest defeaturing/repairing while in DM mode, and then right click thetop item in the  browser tree, and turn "capture design history" back on.  Then you will have history for the rest of the edits you make.

Hi Jeff,

Seems were running into this a lot more where we need to make changes to customer supplied models, so there has to be a way to do this. I don't mind deleting the original model and rebuilding it from sketches but so far I have not been able to edit a sketch from that was projected from the original model. Any tips for doing this?

For projected sketch entities, you can select them  all, right mouse click, and select "break link" to make them editable.  Is that what your looking for?
