So I started with a circle in sketch mode, press pulled it into a disk and the added a bunch more features. I then decided that the original disk should have a segment cut out of it (top view). I tried split face and split body but whatever they did was not what I wanted -  which was to split the disc into a segment I could delete and keep the rest of the disk. So I tried going back to the original sketch that created the disk. However I could find no way of cutting a segment out of the circle. Break does not seem to work on circles. I expected to find the sort of cookie cutters that programs like Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator have, but these do not seem to exist.

Where am I going wrong?

Both Extrude|Cut and Split body work on extruded cylinders:

If you want a detailed explanation of why it isn't working for you, attach your file (File|Export|Archive file *.f3d) and a screencast showing what you're doing.

I first edit the sketch, then the extrude events in the timeline. Sorry the screencast is my first and looks like it was produced by Helen Keller. Best of Luck.

Thank all three of you for your responses, which I am working through.

Kelly. Please don't apologise for the screencast, it went at my speed, so I could follow what you were doing without having to keep stopping the action

etfrench,

Yes, thanks got that. I am assuming you hit "T" in the middle there - no need to respond if I am correct

etfrench,

Thanks again. I follow this and particularly note that you made the cut off piece invisible using the browser. I found that when I did this on my real project the 'invisible' piece showed up in the drawing. But when I followed your steps and then switched to drawing mode the result was fine. any idea what I may have done wrong?
