Models are never activated

Anonymous
Not applicable

I just downloaded Fusion 360 and started following tutorials online. However, I noticed that my component (e.g. a Box) is not activated and does not show up unless I hover over it. Beneath the 'Browser', and to the right of the model name, there is a radio button that says "Activate Component". Looks very promising as a solution to my problem, except that it does nothing. Once I click anywhere else, my component disappears again.

What's wrong?

It's because you didn't activate the component first before you created your body. So now you activate the component and since the body is not part of that component it disappears.

Can you share this file...we might be able to fix this.....

Your problem is not component related. The lightbulb next to body one is blue which means is is hidden. If you click on the lightbulb and turn it yellow that will make the body appear.

Can you do a screen cast showing exactly what your seeing? I can see that the models should be showing doesn't make sense that then are not.

What graphics card do you have, does it meet the minimum specs for Fusion. Click on the Graphics Diagnostics and get a screen grab of the dialog and attach. Minimum specs here.

You could try activating Limit all effects to see if that helps and see if there are any updates for you're graphic card driver.

Hi,

Like what @HughesTooling, I think this may be based on your graphics card. Sharing your Graphics Diagnostic with us would be helpful. Normally when we see that grey background it is a good indicator or either a graphics card that is too weak, or needs its driver updated. Just to check - if you hover over where the model should be, do faces highlight?

Here is the graphics card details:

[GPU Information]
GPU Device: Intel(R) HD Graphics
GPU RAM: 64 MB (Integrated card)
GPU Driver API: DirectX 9.0
GPU Driver Version: 8.15.10.2189
GPU Driver Date: 08/31/2010

[Graphics Effects Settings]
Anti Aliasing: Off
Ambient Occlusion: On
Object Shadow: Off
Ground Shadow: On
Ground Reflection: Off
Selection Display Style: Normal
Transparency Effect: Better Performance

[Notes]
1. If you have another discrete GPU on your system it is recommended to run Fusion on it to get better performance.

2. The graphics card driver version is old and could be out of date; please check with your GPU vendors to download and install the latest one.

3. The effects could slow down the graphics rendering; try to limit them for optimum performance.

[Limit all effects to provide optimum performance]
Off

I agree it is not a strong one, but I thought just drawing a box shouldn't be that computationally intensive.

I also tried checking 'limit all' on, but no way --seems it is indeed the graphics card.

Hi @Anonymous,

Yea, as you mentioned, this card falls under our minimum requirements and I have a feeling this is what you are seeing Smiley Sad For most CAD applications, you really want a computer that has a dedicated graphics card instead of an integrated one. Just to check - do you have a dual graphics card and Fusion is just pulling the Intel one?

Also, you can try to update your Intel driver. I do note that the last driver is from 2010, but honestly I am unsure if there is a more recent one. If you are using a laptop, you will want to go to the manufacturer's website to obtain a specific driver, or you can visit Intel's website and try to find a more generic one.

Thanks,
