Modeling without sketching - Enjoy!

Hey All,

This is just something I decided to do for fun. The whole idea is was to create a model without a single sketch. This is a result of 20 min. work, but obviously I could have spend more time on the small details.

I also wanted to prove that in Fusion 360, you can accomplish a lot without so much effort. If you like it and want to know how I did it or the file, please let me know.

This was interesting...seems anything I throw at it driven by parameters holds up....Who says moving an object can't be parametrically driven without breaking the design....lol

Oh wait, now I see how it's done.  Funny thing is it's exactly what I thought it was originally (last week) but didn't bother to try because I figured it would't be practical anyway (and therefore less interesting).  And now I've confirmed this.  Smiley Wink

EDIT:  I will admit it is somewhat interesting.  But I would still very much like to see something more streamlined.

The one thing I did take away from this experiment is that I now know how to add some parametrics to the DM environment and that is very useful to me.

@PhilProcarioJr Ok now I would like to see that file Phil because this looks very interesting. Can you send it to me: info@ckbrd.de ?

I am shocked you of all people don't know how this is done. Smiley Wink

I am not the only user that is "listening" to this thread and I bet there are more than a few that are interested in  how this works. Thanks for the file! Hopefully one of you guys will post their results when the testosterone level has leveled off a little  the competition has come to a happy end.

I have been listening very intently as I can see many applications for this kind of modeling and particularly the parametric part. If you want to do script driven generative modeling this will create much more lightweight models. I believe for generative modeling techniques - I am not talking about dreamcatcher, because that is more generative mechanical engineering - but I am talking about Rhino/Grasshopper like structures, some of these modeling techniques can be incredibly efficient without having a load of sketches that create unnecessary data.

Another area that needs lightweight models are electronics. I've had some conversations with the AD team working o the ECAD/MCAD integration and Electronics often have a staggering number of components, that are simple in structure. Building a library with models that are parametric in nature but are lightweight would be a great application for these techniques.

Well I for one will never model this way, but I have to say that by figuring some things out I have made Fusion do some pretty complex things.....things I haven't even shared yet that makes this stuff very trivial. As a matter of fact I'm wondering if the development team even knows some of the things......based on comments I have seen I don't think many if any do.

That's always the stuff that fuels me.....using tools in ways no one ever thought to use them....

The possibilities this opens in the direct modeling environment for me makes up for the lack of geometry constraints that are missing from the DM environment so I am very pleased that I messed around with this.....

That exactly makes this Forum and these sorts of threads so valuable.

See Jeff's answer to my post in this thread "We could never come up with a workflow that would require...".

That is a normal thing.

Thats where we come in!

They are listening!

The interesting thing about the file I sent you is the parametric move of a model....that works with complex generative designs.....not the fact that it was done without sketches, but rather the possibilities of parametric time line modeling without a lot of the pitfalls associated with the time line. That coupled with the fact that predictable results from a generative design are a welcome outcome in my eyes. Also given the way I am achieving these results has a lot less overhead and much better overall performance is also very welcome. I have learned over the last few days that a lot of things that both the Fusion development team and it's users said was not possible is in fact very possible. This was a very nice find for me and hopefully has opened your eyes to exciting and new possibilities.
