Mirror features to another body

Anonymous

Hi,

I have modeled two bodies with a plane created between the two. One body has a slot feature which I want to mirror to the second body. I select the pattern type as "pattern features" and the midplane as the mirror plane. When I select the slot feature, it show a preview of the slot in the second body, however, when I "apply" the feature it does not appear on the second body.

What am I doing wrong?

@jeff_strater - What would be the appropriate way for the community to vote up this issue?

Ah so I'm not alone.

I've got parts with hundreds upon hundreds of rivet holes that need to be mirrored across a dozen bodies that make up a spar structure, and so far the only viable strat is to make my holes into a body, and then cut that body from a duplicate body without holes to turn the holes into 'drills' and then delete all that out of the spar with literally dozens of combine-cut features because we can't select multiple target bodies for a single cut (despite extrude being able to do that just fine 🙄) It's an incredibly fiddly and clumsy and heavy workaround to what would be real simple if I could simply use a mirror.

@ScottWatrous

Maybe I don't understand the problem description, but it sounds like to me that these should be Components.

Make a temporary part like a long thin cylinder that passes through the bodies and combine/join everything into one body. Then you can mirror. Then delete the long thin cylinder.

Yup, and almost every other freaking CAD package on the planet has the ability to mirror about a plane, mirror with translations, or about a line.

I came across this problem today...and it's pathetic that it hasn't been addressed still. Autodesk, please get this basic feature implemented! Mirroring is a critical function in many scenarios.
