Merge missing?

I'm trying to merge two faces and I found this wondersful video:

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/learn-explore/caas/screencast/Main/Details/6717a963...

However, the merge command does not exist within my modify menu.  Is this an artifact of the upgrade this weekend?  What am I missing?

I really need to delete a couple edges or merge the faces; I don't care which.

Thanks.

Hi Tom,

The option to merge is only available in the patch environment.  From here you can merge multiple faces into a quilt surface that you can work with.

Hope this will help you out.  The video you see there has an older UI, which is why it isn't shown, but the content is still good.

Cheers,

Hi Tom, I normally don't use Merge command, since will change the shape of the surface.  But to use it, you need to be in direct modeling mode, so the way I get to that is in Model workspace go to Create > Create base feature, then while in that, can switch over to Patch workspace, and the Merge command will be there under Modify.  When finished you can press Finish base feature in upper right.

Yes, I was in the patch mode. No merge in the menu.  I tried to grab a screen shot but no joy when the menu was open.

Hi @cyberreefguru.  There are a handful of commands in Direct Modeling that we have not yet had the time to turn into features in Parametric Modeling.  Merge (AKA Face Merge) is one of them.  It would be a useful addition, but just has not yet risen to the top of the priority heap yet.  I did not find this on the Idea Station, so if you'd like to add an item for this, it might be good to see if others would find this useful.

Hi Jeff. I guess I don't understand what you mean by direct modeling mode vice parametric mode.  The UI simply says "model" and "patch".  Sorry for being dense, but the menu option simply doesn't exist for merge.

Oh, sorry.  I never know how detailed to get in reponses.  There are two types of designs you can create in Fusion:  One is called "Direct Modeling" or "do not capture history".  In this mode, no feature timeline exists in the design, and you cannot go back and edit features using a parametric history as you can in other common CAD modelers.  The other is called "Parametric Modeling" or "Capture Design History", and does capture features.  You can choose your default design type in the Design page of the Preferences command:

You can tell whether a design is Direct or Parametric by the existence of the timeline at the bottom of the screen:

So, that was the context of my answer - currently, Merge is only available in a Direct Modeling design today

I found it, you have to click on the top of the outliner on the left (named view, origin, bodies, construction etc..) and in the root you should right click and "disable capture history" (enabled by default) and now the function will be available.

What a atrocious way to sell formation to an obfuscated software instead of being self explanatory
