Measurements

I created a custom deisgn in Fusion 360 for mac.  I modeled nicely and i am trying to share it with a fabricator to get production estimates.  The problem is I can't figure our how to add persistent dimenions to the model.  I can see a 2D in sketch but that is not as useful given the design.  Can anyone tell me of fusion 360 for mac supports the inclusion of persistent measurements/dimensions in model view?

Hello Rob,

Forgive me if I understand your doubt incorrectly, but I don't know of any way to explicitly draw dimensions in the model framework. You insert dimensions in a sketch, but they are not visible when you stop the sketch.

What you should do is, after modelling, produce a drawing for your model (File / New Drawing). In the drawing, you insert all the dimensions you need (as well as other annotations). I agree the drawing framework is rather limiting, as you can only work with 2-D views of your model, but I see no other way to do that.

By the way, what is the format of the file you are sending to your fabricator ? A proper CAM file should implicitly include dimensioning of the parts.

Cheers,

Luiz

Hi @rob,

I understand you are having some issues with displaying measurements. There are a few options we have to display measurements.

Firstly, you could find the sketch you would like to display measurements for the browser tree. Once you have that, if you right click the particular sketch there is an option for showing dimensions as shown below.

Secondly, you could create a 2D drawing from your design. This is the option I would do just because it allows you to insert projected views, detailed views (a zoomed in view of sections that may be very small), and cross sectional views to capture interior geometry. This can be found in the file dropdown menu as shown below.

The last thing you could do is use the measure tool in LMV (Light Model Viewer in A360). All you have to do for this option is share the public link for your design with your fabricator and they can use the measure tool found in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen as shown in the image below.

Hope this helps!
