Many joints not working and clashing

Hi guys! I'm trying to create a scissor arm mechanism that's different from the conventional X shaped one. This one has 3 beams attached to a central connector that forms 1 layer.

I've made each beam & the connector separately, then assembled them with revolve joints. Then I tried to construct the whole arm & attached each layer with revolve joints.

I can't seem to get the layers to behave as expected. They are supposed to stack nicely on top of one another when stowed, but I can't bring the lowest layer to the lowest point without having the top layers collapse on themselves & intersect.

I've tried constraining the joints to certain angles, but that just causes the whole structure to seize & I can't move the joints any more.

Here is the file if anyone wants to have a look: https://a360.co/2CpyNk7. Any help would be really appreciated! I really need this fixed for a project. ๐Ÿ™‚

if you where to break the links to external components, and then attach a clean .f3d file, you might get more responses.  most of us don't want to deal with .f3z files.
