making a second variant of a parametric model

Suppose you've created a nice parametric model.

Then you'd like to make a second version of the same thing, with a few parameters changed.

One route would be to duplicate the file and change the relevant parameters. Fine.

Is there a cunning way (perhaps in the same file?) that you could make the second model (with 2-3 changes respect to the first) such that any later modifications made to the first model will still filter through to the second?

Perhaps you're interested in Fusion Sheeter. It enables you to load parameters into a google sheet and you can maintain different configurations there. Within Fusion you can apply them or create different "Save copy as" versions.

My only feedback would be for Autodesk to "buy" the work you have done so far and build it into Fusion.

Go with the "buy" suggestion.

Not just because it's well conceived and well executed - generally a good piece of work  - but for a different sort of reason.

The percentage of F360 users who will get on to using this is probably quite low. But amongst those that do they will probably find it super cool. However how does the tool get into the hands of that small percentage of users? What better way than being "integrated".

btw think it is crying out for a usage business case. Like a store in the mall that offers to make a box for storing your collection of "whatever". You walk in, show them what you collect (stamps, baseball bats, old cellphones...) and select a box style from the catalogue.... Half an hour later (the router goes IMMEDIATELY to work) there's a flat pack waiting for you to assemble at home with lots of perfectly dimensioned compartments to house your collection! 😉

I'm fine with the open source version. It works reliable, I needed some
changes so that it fits my needs slightly better and I can grab the code,
alter it and when those changes are stable I can share them back.
