Mac Drawings.

Are drawings on mac still not available? I can see the preview in the browser but when I open one that was created on a PC it never opens. There is an app called AcCoreConsole that trys to open but stalls out. I end up having to force quit everything.

I have tried to fully uninstall and reinstall, no change.

While I have not tried to open existing drawings I have tried to create drawings. However, at the moment the drawing module is petty useless for my purposes and I am continuing to model the machined components I need in Geomagic Design and then create manufacturing drawings there.

I am running Geomagic Design Pro in VM Fusion on an iMac.

Ya I just need basic drawings, it happens when creating new also. The only reason I was opening an existing drawing was because I created it on a PC laptop...

The drawings in Fusion are getting better from when first released. I haven't seen any annoucements of major enhancements but it seems like it is much more useable than when first released.

Drawings created on a PC should open on a Mac.  In order to reproduce the issue and find a solution for your issue,  I will need your files.  On your PC, can you open the design that the drawing is documenting and export it using the "Export..." command in the File menu.  Select "Archive Files (.f3d)" as the output format.  Then open the drawing on the PC and export that using the "Export..." command. Please send both to kris.berg@autodesk.com.

Thank you,

Since you are unable to create new Drawings on the Mac, it sounds like it is not data specific.  You can disregard my previous post.  What version of the OS do you have?  Can you try to create a drawing again on your Mac and this time go to Activity Monitor (to get to it you can type "Activity Monitor" in spotlight), select AcCoreConsole and then in the top left menu select "Sample Process" as shown below.

Save the process output using the Save... button on the top right side of the window.

If you have a process called "InventorServerHost" can you also sample that using the steps listed above? Please send both to kris.berg@autodesk.com.

The plot thickens. When you right click on a component, create drawing isn't even there like on a PC. I guess I never looked since whenever opening a drawing it would lock up so just did them on a PC.

We have a fix for the hang issue you are encountering.  It is specific to 10.8.5.  It will be fixed in our release scheduled to come out next Saturday.  In May, Fusion will no longer be supporting Mountain Lion (10.8.5).  You may want to update your OS.  Updating the OS on a Mac is fairly easy and Apple provides OS updates for free.

On the inability to create drawings from a component, have you saved the design which includes the component at least once?  We disable drawing creation until the design has been saved once. We are improving that experience in the May release.

We are continuing to improve quality, performance and functionality within Drawings.  This next release will have Parts List and Balloons.  The May release will have even more new features.  See the roadmap here:  http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-product-roadmap/fusion-360-and-fusion-360-ultimate-roadmap-...

I apologize we did not find the hang you encountered prior to release, but a fix is coming soon.  Let me know if you have more questions.

Thank you,

Kris Berg

I'm having exactly the same issue runnin in OSX. AcCoreConsole freezes up continuously when opening, creating, and editiing drawings. Very inconvenient and is rendering this software quite useless. Not to mention Fusion freezing every time you try to publish an animation video.

Tkmoore, I was wondering if anyone else was having issues and thinking something would be posted about it eventually. Maybe since most mac users migrate to the new OS versions rather quickly the problem just doesn't present itself as often.

Kris, that was it on the create drawing not showing up. I just created a component and never saved it to try to make a drawing. Still locks up though like expected.

Thanks for the info on the mac os x change, this is a work mac that I sometimes use at home and I can't upgrade it at a whim. I will talk to an IT guy about getting it done. I know they are battling some networking issues on 10.9 and 10.10 since we are primarily on a PC based network...

Whats changing so that 10.8.5 wont work anymore?

@Anonymous The issue JFKANSAS is having is specific to 10.8.5.  Are you on the same OS?  If not, can you follow the instructions in my second post of this thread and send me, kris.berg@autodesk.com, the process samples when you experience a hang in Drawings?

Thank you,

JFKANSAS thank you for the response. I understand completely that it is hard to get IT to move to newer OS.  The drawing issue will be fixed in the release scheduled for next Saturday.  We will no longer be able to support 10.8.5 in May in order to allow us to use new technologies, especially graphics related technologies, which are only available on OSX 10.9 and 10.10.

@Anonymous with that hardware configuration drawings should work very well.  I just recieved your samples and will look at them.  Do you mind also sending me the design you are working with?

Thank you,

I would prefer not to it's proprietary.

One would think Fusion 360 should work well with this hardware configuration but it's actually the slowest running program I have. Simulation Mechnical running through Parallels works better than Fusion 360 native on OSX. There are many many many issues with Fusion.

Just to update this thread on this issue.  On the Mac, some modeled threads can cause a hang in Drawings.  This will be fixed in our upcoming release.  Thank you to @Anonymous for working with me on this issue.

Well I guess we now know why very few CAD vendors develop or make their app compatible for OS X. It's HARD WORK.

Nevertheless, thanks Autodesk team for bringing a REAL CAD to OS X!

Hi Kris, just started back on the drawings today and the software seems to be working alright.  If I run into any issues will be sure to let you know.  A note though for future improvements for drawings it would be great to see more customizable title blocks and/or the addition of fields for tolerances and finish.

Could you explain to me how fusion handles updating drawings after a components features are altered?  For some reason I am assuming the 2d drawing should automatically update in accordance to the 3d component.
