Looking for advice for how to model a surface

Sorry, title is very undescriptive - part of my problem is I don't even know what to search for!!

I'm modelling a pair of sunglasses, and I'd like to take a scoop out of the back to thin out the frame along the lens.  In the snip below, I'd like to scoop out something like the (crude!!) red line shows.

I can't figure out a good method to do this!  I've tried drawing two curves in front and back, and lofting a cut between them, but I don't get the shape I want nor the control I need. Ideally I'd like to sketch right on the curved inner and outer surfaces of the frame and cut between them, but I can't figure out how.

Is this a Patch environment thing? Is it a 3D sketching thing?  Is there an even better way I haven't thought of?

Thanks!

I would build a cutting tool shape and use a bool operation. The cutter and exceed the volume of your target shape.

Cheers,

I’d use a surface loft in the patch environment of achieve smooth curvature. Can you export your design as a .f3d file and attach it to your next post ? I can show in a screencast how to do that.

there are several ways to do that,  and using a combine-cut operation with another solid body would also work. It really depends on what geometry you’re after.

Thanks, both of you. I managed to do what I wanted by figuring out 3d sketching and running a rectangular cut area along a spline that more-or-less followed the frame outline.

I'd export my model, Peter, but Fusion won't let me - I had some externally referenced components in the design and Fusion 360 says export to .f3d isn't supported. Even though I've deleted the external components, that flag is still set and I still get the message.

There are other methods to share a design.

Find your design in the data panel right click on it and select "share public link". Make sure to enable download. Then post the link here.
