Loft with rails won't complete

Hi guys,

I can't complete a loft with rails... quite frustrating.

If someone have a solution, that would be nice to share!

Attached what i would like to achieve, with a previous successfull attempt that i can't reproduce....

I forgot to show the error i got....the loft seems to intersect itself...

You have a archive file of the error. I was able to make a similar design as long of the two profiles did not share a plane.

you're asking a lot from this loft.  lofts really need good, well thought out input to give good results.  I think your going to need some more transitional geometry.

some tricky lofts can only be done with surface lofts vs solid loft.   it can also be helpful to do some surface lofts to help visualize where the trouble spots are. see attached.

OK, thanks for the advices and the attached file. I will try to put transitional profiles.

The multiple steps approach via surface loft can be quite helpfull!

I got it to loft by splitting the two profiles in half with a line and lofting them individually while joining them on the second loft. The area towards the outer curve starts to bow in. Applying a radius on the sharp corners of the upper profile relieves that bow.

The problem with this loft as you have it set up is:  The points on each profile must get matched.  The algorithm gets confused and causes the "wrong" mapping to be applied, and the surface is twisted.

 

The only way today to untangle this is to add more rails:

Adding just this one rail makes the loft succeed.  If you take this approach, you do get a result:
