Linked configured component performance

Hello all,

I completely remade our cabinet system utilizing the new Configurations functionality. I'm very impressed by this new function, and it worked very well. Until... I started to assemble multiple cabinets in one file.

Updated the linked configured files takes very long. Files take 3-10 minutes to update to the latest version. Using Get All Latest is always crashes if there are multiple linked configurations. Switching linked configurations also takes a similar amount of time.

The weird thing is that when I open the files directly and update or switch between them, everything runs very smooth.

The files have 10-120 components and 8-64 configurations, and there are 1-6 configured files in a file.

I am running on a beefy computer with high speed internet, and the rest of Fusion runs very snappy. Updating non configured files is done in about a second. I of course already tried to clear cache and update Fusion.

I need to update files all the time. Right now I am waiting two hours per day for Fusion to update linked files 😴.

Is somebody having similar issues? Any tips are welcome.

Kind regards,

Koen

@Mublio

We are aware of performance issues trying to update configurations in some cases.  The problem gets compounded when you are trying to update multiple out-of-date configurations using Get All Latest.  We are actively working on fixing some of the performance issues in this area.

Glad to hear this is on the radar! Could you give any rough timeline on when improvements are expected? Weeks, months, longer?

Our designers now want to revert back to our non-configuration system and I would like to give them some hope for improvement.

Kind regards,

Koen

@Mublio You mentioned "Using Get All Latest is always crashes if there are multiple linked configurations.", do you means Fusion is real crashed or no response during the update? If it is a real crash, can you help to provide some data to us to confirm the problem? Thanks in advance!

Hello @Steven_Gao,

Thank you for following up. With crashes I mean a real crash.

I ran some tests with different files and collected the Error report IDs. I also ran the new Performace feedback tool while doing the test, report IDs are in the table below.

FileError report IDPerformance feedback report IDTime to crash (min)
File 1 "Deur"8074532601044041:40
File 2 "1 Lade"8074557121044050:30
File 3 "2-5 Lades"8074611811044060:50

I can give you access to the files if that would help.

Kind regards,

Koen

Hi @Mublio Thank you for the testing! It is definitely helpful for us to confirm the problems. Please help to invite me(mingwei.gao@autodesk.com) into your hub to access the files. In addition, can you help to provide some steps/videos for those crash workflows? You can send them to my email too. Thanks in advance!

@Mublio

We are looking at a few months.  I understand the frustration caused by some of the issues (update and others) you are facing and I am hopeful that we will improve the system to better serve your needs soon.  Thanks for your patience.

This is very bad news. Last summer we already spent hundreds of hours to migrate to configured designs. That time we tried to transfer our whole cabinet system in one configured file. As the system grew, Fusion became too slow to operate. On advice of one of your collegues, we again spent hundres of hours to develop the system in separate files and link them in one assembly. Now also this approach is not usable due to performace.

These performace issues have been very frustrating and cost our company a lot of money. Is just doesn't make sense to me that opening the file and changing configuration can be done in 5 seconds, and doing basically the same trough a linked file takes 10-100x as long. Is there ANY other way we can improve the Get Latest speed?

Kind regards,

Koen

Great to hear that there are some improvements on the way regarding this performance issue. We are in a similar case to @Mublio whereas we are now invested in the system which is totally unusable. A design change that should take half an hour is commonly taking half a day to complete.

Please prioritise this update.

Looks like no progress on this issue with the March update. Any chance we could get a status update @gautham_kattethota

@Workvan_NZ . Yes, it didnt make it into March. We are actively working on it and we estimate a few more months.  Sorry its taking long, but we are making some comprehensive changes to meet the needs the right way

@Workvan_NZ

We made some improvements to Get All Latest performance affecting configurations in the May update of Fusion.  We did see small to large improvements in tested datasets, depending on the way the assembly containing configured components is structured.  Have you noticed any improvements in your datasets?

We are not with this yet and are planning more changes to improve various aspects of configurations performance in coming months.

Could you summarize the problems you are still facing?
