Linked Bodies

Hi all,

I use Fusion 360 for FEA. I usually start with a STEP file (designed by others so I have little control of the design) which I simplify in the Simulation space before running the FEA. One issue I am having is that bodies seemed to be linked.

For example I may have 2 beams that were likely mirrored by the person who did the original design. I have checked and made sure there was no link between these beams, that they weren't grounded to a parent and that they were independent. If I was to delete one of these beams the other would not delete.

Where I am having trouble is when I try to cut one these beams in half to create symmetry. If I cut one the beams the opposite half of the second beam gets cut. I have tried creating components from bodies. In that case if I delete one of the beams the other also deletes. I have tried splitting the beam in to 2 bodies. If I do this I get the same issue, deleted one of the bodies deletes the opposite body half on the other beam.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? An example of this can be seen in the attached f3d file.

Thanks

I have attached a stripped down file for your reference. I seemed to have found a work around by copy and pasting the affected part. By copy and pasting, not moving the part then not selecting the 'create a copy' option it seems to break whatever link is between the parts. I have 2 simulations in the attached file. If you go to simulation 8 and try and cut using the sketch I created it will delete all parts labelled 'width perimeter'. Whereas in simulation 9 if you cut using the same sketch it will only cut the 'width perimeter' part that the cutting sketch intersects.

Hello günther,

I've attached the file. Are you able to assist?

Thanks
