Lining up holes on different components?

I'm designing a stepper motor mount, and am wondering if there's a simple way to get the mounting holes on the motor to line up with the mounting plate. 

 

In this image, I need to put four 5mm holes in the plate under the motor for mounting. In something like SketchUp, I'd probably put vertical guides through the center of each hole and create corresponding circles on the top of the plate.

I considered copying the holes from the motor model, but I can't get them to copy / paste into a different sketch.

 

I'm very new to Fusion - any help would be appreciated. I have quite a few components that need to be mounted in this way. The plates are going to be CNC'd after I get all the holes placed so it's pretty important that they are accurately positioned.

Hi @techvette

 

One way to ensure the holes line up could be to project the hole geometry onto the plate. I have shown a brief example of how to do this in the short video below - hopefully it will help! Please let me know if you have any questions.hole project.gif

Thanks - that worked. (Though it'd be nice if there was a way to rewind animated gifs!) It took a bit of work to get the selections worked out correctly, but ultimately I succeeded.

But, what if you don't have the motor model to project from?  A common issue is transferring spacings of holes from part drawings -- I know there must be an easier way than I've been doing.  What's the easiest way to simply space out 3 holes (a through-port for a motor and 2 bolt holes)?

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

 

With your actual assembly in hand - the appropriate solution for your case will be more apparent.

Since you mention 3 holes - I am assuming a simple Circular Pattern, but without the file, without even a screen capture image... ...well, my crystal ball is out for service and all is a guess...

I don't have an active project, but one I was working on previously was very simply trying to provide mounting holes to match this drawing...  So, three holes - big one in the middle for the motor, 2 small ones for bolt through-holes, matching these dimensions.

Start a new project

or

Attach the one that you were working on previously.

 

History on.

Sketch points on circle (or line).

Hole command.

Done!

Simply create a sketch with the three circles and the perimeter of the mounting plate. Extrude. Use a joint to position the motor relative to the mounting plate.
