Lines on top of lines

In sketch if you have a shorter line on top of a longer line and you go to select or dimension the shorter line it should be easier to select. It always defaults to the longer line making it impossible to select or dimension the shorter line without moving it. It is possible to dimension the shorter line using it's end points but it should be possible to select the shorther line.

You can select overlapping entities by holding the mouse left button and then releasing it, it then presents you a list of entites that are on top of each other for you to select, this allows you browse through them and select.

This is one area where Fusion 360 doesn't really improve on Inventor, and neither solution is really very good. There's got to be a clever way to make this task easier.

This no longer seems to work for me in 2019. I only get the normal popup menu, so it is impossible for me to select the correct line. Did this change with more recent versions?

As indicated by @yoshimitsuspeed this is a really bad behavior and it saddens me to see that the problem has been around for 4 years without being solved. If you hover over 2 lines, selecting the shorter one is the obvious thing to do. The other one you can always select a different place in the drawing.

Hi,

You should try again.
I have been using one of the two methods shown for more than three years.

left click+hold >dimensionleft click+hold >dimension

You are completely right günther!

I tried this with no result, but I guess I'm not patient enough? I expected the dialogue to show right away, but it takes almost a second it seems. Works when I click and HOLD for some time without releasing. Thanks!

Yeah, the, "Click and release," instruction was deceptive. It's more accurate to say, "Click and hold until selection menu pops up."

A line on a line is the overlapping line. overlapping entities can be selected individually by holding the mouse left button on it and releasing it, then the list of entites will appear. select any one of them you want to work with and do it.

@MoshiurRashid This is an ancient thread and so are some others that you have responded to. Before you are posting, perhaps it's not a bad idea to ask yourself what you would be adding to the conversation. For example, repeating advise already given twice in a thread isn't adding anything of value 😉

Pssst: it was @Anonymous  re-opening the thread and yes - it's a recurring problem 😉
