Lighting map replacement?

With the new render engine, there is only one lighting environment that is suitable for much of my work and that is Plazza. Is it possible to go into the file system and replace one of the maps I'll never use (like snow) with one I use regularly. I have replaced some of the default environments in previous releases but I don't want to completely mess the new release up.

If so, is there a preferred format (HDR etc.) and maximum size?

Hi,

Yes. You can surely do that, although it is not recommended. The follows are the steps. Let's say you want to replace the snow lighting map.

1. Go to the snow environment folder under your Fusion installation folder. On Windows, this is somewhere on your Machine like: <Fusion folder>\Neutron\Server\Scene\Resources\Environments\Snow; on Mac: <Fusion folder>/Frameworks/Neutron.framework/Neutron/Server/Scene/Resources/Environments/Snow

2. Replace the mi360_Snow_lat_long.hdr with the HDR image you prefer but please make sure: (1) Don't change the file name; (2) The HDR image should be LatLong format

3. Open the Snow.xml file in the same folder and adjust the exposure attribute in the file:

<ToneMapping ExposureBase="-11.5" />

Depending on the HDR image you use, you will need to set the ExposureBase to an appropriate value(e.g., from -15 to 0) otherwise you may just get totally white or black display.

4. After doing the steps above, you need to restart Fusion to get it to work.

Hopefully this is helpful for you.

Thanks very much.

I did a similar thing previously and it worked but this is a new toy so I'll be gentle!

A huge part of getting proper render results is having the right lighting so I'm very happy you were willing to let me screw up Smiley Very Happy

Ooops, spoke too soon.

I'm not sure these files are even kept locally any more. I've looked all over my drive and none of these directories or files exist on my drive. Can anyone confirm this?

Are you on Windows or Mac?

If you are on Windows, you can locate Fusion installer folder by right clicking the desktop icon of Fusion360 and then select properties. Then you can click the button "Open File location".

If you are on Mac, you can right click the Fusion app on the dock and then choose "show in Finder".

Once you locate your Fusion installation folder, you can follow the steps in my previous post to continue.

Man, no wonder I couldn't find it..

Anyway, great news and great success. It worked perfectly.

Thanks again for all your help.

Also, thanks to all the team there for a great release. I've been having a blast with the renderer and material settings and figuring out what I can do to recreate my existing style.
