Learning but stuck in a Solidworks Mindset

Hi all, I'm returning to Autodesk products after 2 decades of Solidworks. I have a specific job to do and although i'm struggling to implement the design I am sure that Fusion holds the keys as I'm very impressed with the mesh tools. I want to take an STL file and use it to create a mold in a solid block. The problem Im having is that I cant turn the stl into a solid file to do a subtract from a solid block. Any tips?

It would be a big help to see your actual model.  Please attach it.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

Of course thanks John. Ive imported the stl and closed the mesh, I want to essentially use the .stl to cut the solid block.

The car Mesh creates numerous solid Bodies.  Not all of these are contained within the solid block you created.  I have Combined Cut the main body of the car from the block, this is attached.  I will have to determine what other bodies are inside the block.

Edit: I have attached a second model with just the Mesh converted to solids so you can see all the created Bodies.

Wow john thanks a million. I have rolled back the parametric timeline and it seems that you did similar to what I thought should have been done, but executed badly! Thanks so much. Ive spent i'd say 4 hours failing before I reached out. You are a superstar!

My question would be: How would you do this in SolidWorks? (I started working with SolidWorks in 1998)

Importing a triangulated mesh file into a CAD application is fraught with problems.
