Joint errors when working with an assembly

I have an issue with joints when I import a part to an assembly.

If the imported part is also an assembly and I wish to move it to a new location using a joint, only the part I click on moves. The other parts of the imported assembly remain in the location it was imported to. I've created a simply design to show this in the attached image.

The only fix I can do is to make the imported part a rigid group but then I lose any joint features of the part of the model. For instance, in my main project, I have a rotational middle section that I want to import and rotate to check how the final design will look at different angles. Because of the issue above, I have to make the parts as rigid groups and then all of the joint features of the imported part are now lost.

What is the correct way to do this?

Here is the shared link to the simple project.

One component in each assembly should be grounded.

The Neonpixel ring assembly should be rigid grouped. In the screencast i am showing his this is done.

I personally prefer to avoid linked components as it can get cumbersome to work with, however, there is also nothing wrong with it.
