Joining of two Poles of different material properties

Hello,

I am attempting to make a spider web model and am having problems with joining of threads.

At an intersection, If I join the strands I am later unable to apply different material properties to the mesh on the bodies as they are now one. I have two distinct materials which need to be distributed throughout the web structure. In this scenario,  I have no issues with testing point loads on the model in simulation tab however.

The second way I made the model included making different components at the intersections but then this causes interference and I am unable to use the simulation tools.

Is there an easy way to apply different material properties to different area's of a single body?

If not, is there a way to attached the threads to one another as separate bodies/components? I am having issues as the objects are curved and have no edges to join to one another.

Hi @ordidnac

Welcome to the Fusion 360 community - thanks for posting!

While there is not a way to apply different materials to a single body in Fusion 360, you may be able to split the bodies up using sketch or surface geometry. A short example of this is shown here - hopefully it will help give you some ideas on how to split up your model.

If you continue to experience difficulties, I am happy to have a look at your model if you can share it with me using any of these techniques!
