joining created polygon with imported model

I am having trouble joining a created polygon with imported model. I sketch the polygon and extrude it for height. Then I import and size the model I want to attach to the polygon/base. So far I have been unsuccessful in fusing them into one object. What am I missing? Is it a mismatch of objects, components and models? Thank you.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

What is the outcome you are after?

The two bodies at the time I downloaded the file, are mismatched, and depending on answer to the above question,

I was able to save the complete model as an stl file, no mods, no proceedures other than to right click the top level assembly and select save as STL - worked,

and I was able to convert the polygon to a mesh body, Create > Brep to Mesh,

and successfully merged them in the Mesh environment, Modify > Merge bodies

I don't have enough experience to get the mesh body into Brep, the mesh has over 20,000 faces and Fusion has a 10,000 limit,

if that was the way you needed it to be....

Might help

Perhaps that is my problem. How are the bodies mismatched? Is there a resource explaining the definitions of terms that have specific meanings in F360? My end goal is a single item exported as an stl that I will then slice and print. Thank you.

Good question, I can't point you to the answer, there is likely something in the Help / Learn section

it is experience - Fusion handles four types of modelling bodies, each has it's own environment, the icons in each environment are a different colour,

when you have bodies in the window / browser area,

the brep / solids - default is solid grey, the icons light blue,

patch has a front and back -are not solid, icons are orange

sculpt is same colour as solid, but icons are purple

meshes are mauve, icons are yellow.

Might help....

You have a solid body and a mesh (surface) body.

Also, is the hex really oriented the way you want it?  (I would expect the sides of the hex to be vertical and centered about the mesh emblem.)

Have you gone through the Help>Learn Fusion tutorials?

I have not. Though I will. I have only really done the Instructables lessons. Thank you.

There shouldn't be a need to actually join the two components before creating the stl.  You can just make them sub-components in the same component.  You may have to create copies of them in order to make them sub-components of a new component.  Slicers should be able to handle this stl with no problem.  I do this quite often with Slic3r.

Unless you have a really big 3d printer, you'll need to resize both objects.  Here's a video that shows how to get this into a slicer.

I didn't make any attempt to accurately align the two components, so you should use the same technique as when you imported the components.

Yep. They do in many cases. It still is bad design practice 😉
