Guys, I am trying to make thread like water bottle. I printed one and showed no airtight even water leaks from it. Can anyone help with the design in the attachment.

Your leak issue doesn't indicate anything wrong with your threads. You will not get a thread to seal unless it's a particular type of tapered thread which is not suitable for your use case. I'm guessing the groove in the top of the bottle and cap is for an 'O' ring seal. If this is the case you'll need a fairly smooth finish on the groove mating faces for it to seal (recommended max 0.8μm Ra). I'm also guessing this has been printed on an FDM machine. I have no experience of these but I imagine it is possible for there to be leak paths between the layers. Are you able to test where the leaks are by making a modified test bottle that you can pressurise? You could then hold it under water, pressurise it with a bicycle pump (or similar device such as a syringe) and check for bubbles.

Hope this helps.

If this answers your question please mark the thread as solved as it can help others find solutions in the future.

How to make max 0.8μm Ra. You can see the thread is not fully seal there is still a sapce in the cad design it fully seal goes all the way no space but after printing is different. The leak is on the thread i showed in video. Maybe the thread type is not right one what is the right thread? I can test it under the water to see if the leak is between the layers but first the thread is not going all the way through???

Your Components are not modeled correctly (in the file that you Attached here).

Would you like to learn how to model these correctly with step-by-step instructions and a summary video of the steps?

Perhaps I didn't make it clear in my reply. You will not get a thread to seal in this application. There are pipe threads that are designed to seal but they are not intended to be disassembled then reassembled and retain a seal. You also didn't answer my question regarding the presence of an 'O' ring. If the groove is for an 'O' ring then this isn't a good design as the 'O' ring will fall out as soon as you tip the bottle. If you require an 'O' ring then it will need to be in a groove that retains it, usually offering a diametral seal rather than a face seal. Other than that I would take up @TheCADWhisperer 's offer of tuition.

If this answers your question please mark the thread as solved as it can help others find solutions in the future.

Ok, let's assume for now that it isn't leaking between layers and only leaking past the seal.

  • Do you have a link to the type of seal you're using?
  • Are you printing this on an FDM printer?
  • What material are you printing this in?

If this answers your question please mark the thread as solved as it can help others find solutions in the future.

You never showed picture of seal.

Machine threads are for the purpose of clamping force (of seal) not themselves for functionality of sealing.

The issue is not with the threads.

You could use knuckle threads, acme (prismatic) or square threads.  Any type of threads to generate clamping force against seal.

Tapered pipe threads are for sealing, but not needed with o-ring.

The Design I attached in the post contains the double O ring 52 and 60 OD. As I understand from you the threads by FDM is not going to work and the O ring groove is not gonna help. So what can I do?

You have still neglected to post pictures of the o-rings.

You have still not provided reference link as requested by @MRWakefield of where they can be purchased.

The threads aren’t the problem.

Either you did not install the o-rings

or

the o-rings are not properly compressed

and/or

3D FDM printing will not give you watertight layers.

I have a lot of other questions about your design, but let’s start  with pictures of the o-ring.

Why are you printing so massively thick with such a small internal fluid volume?

What I the purpose of this container?

The design you attached does not show virtual o-rings either.

And why are you using double o-ring?

Do you have a reference to a similar design that already exists in the real world?

Is there a logical reason you have not posted picture of the O-ring(s)?

I see other issues with your design, but I generally give very very precise step-by-step instructions.

Still no picture of the O-ring used in your video demonstration of leaking or at least a reference link?
