Is there an easy way to construct a plane that is parallel to the screen?

When I'm inserting canvases, often the image I have is not parallel to a face of the model.
What I would like to do is easily construct a plane that is parallel to the screen and insert the image onto this. Then I can save the view, edit the model and "trace through" the inserted image.
Is there an easy way to do this?
I've developed a cumbersome workflow which does what I need. It essentially consists of drawing three perpendicular lines on two perpendicular sketch planes, and then putting a 3D line from one end to the other end. Showing dimensions on the two sketches I can adjust their dimensions until the 3D line is seen as a point. Now I can construct a plane along the line to insert the image onto. It's very tedious...
(In case you're wondering, the first step is using an image overlay program which allows me to float a transparent version of my canvas over Fusion, and then I can pan Fusion around until the orientation of the model is close to that of the canvas...)
