Hello all. I am relatively new to Fusion360, but I am a long time user of Autodesk applications dedicated to polygonal modeling - 3DSMax, Maya, Mudbox. I also have Autocad experience, and I am familiar with MOI. My field is entertainment design.
I am already convinced that Fusion will fit very well within my workflow (especially after writing a simple Autohotkey script enabling Maya-style viewport controls in fusion 🙂 ). It goes without saying that I have a long list of drafting and modeling questions I still need to research, but one UX element is bothering me and I could't find anything on the topic.
Simply put, I am basically looking for a way to disable pre-selection highlighting. Is there such an option ? I understand that this feature can be good to have especially for new users, but I personally find it to be visually distracting especially when interacting with a scene at high speed. Put differently : Since Fusion is actually pretty good at precise selections in the first place (I rarely end up not being able to select what I want), I tend to find preselection highlighting to be somewhat redundant.
Here is a short capture illustrating how things can get visually irritating, compared to the much more "relaxed" visual feedback offered by another program (I am using Blender as an example here, but IIRC both Max and Maya have the option to disable preselection highlighting as well) :

Thank you in advance for your suggestions or workarounds.
Also, on a somewhat related note : where is the best place to discuss the visual aspect of the program in general ? I find the UI to be very well laid out, but I am experiencing a fair number of minor visual issues that I would like to report and discuss (things like micro stutters, font weight inconsistency when selecting a component in the scene tree, and so on). Thanks !
welcome to Fusion @pior_o. Glad to hear that it might fit well for your design style.
unfortunately, no, there is no control to completely disable pre-selection. You can change the style of the preselection in the Preferences dialog, under "Graphics", but there is today no way to disable it completely:
Sorry not to be of more help,
Jeff Strater (Fusion development)
Hello Jeff, thank you for the follow-up.
I do remember playing with these settings, and amongst other things I really appreciated the fact that there is a minimum cap for FPS. Very robust stuff.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no on/off toggle for preselection highlighting indeed. What would be the proper channel to submit this request ? It seems like something rather straightforward to implement, and I believe it would cater to many experienced users.
Thanks !
The way to request things like it is via the Fusion 360 Idea Station. Feel free to add this suggestion there. Perhaps this is a request that others also would feel is useful.
Jeff
Yes, please post this as a request in the Idea station and come back to this thread when done. You'll have my vote. That continuous auto highlighting in some cases drives me crazy 😉
Jeff, Trippy : will do ! I'll take the time to make a video mockup first, in order to show how having such an option could be beneficial. I believe it is one of those small things that many users might enjoy ... without even knowing it 🙂
Hi!
Is this suggestion already somewhere in the Idea Station? Yes it's quite hard to your eyes if you are modelling 8h /day! I feel also, that the shade/color changes are too big, when you are selecting/choosing different elements. Or could it be adjusted with some graphics settings?
@0502880 Yes, @pior_o submitted the idea here: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/ideastation-request-a-feature-or/less-intrusive-pre-selection-highligh...
