Is it possible to make dimension not working as constraints ?

Is there a way to make dimension that isn't working as a constraints so it will change values dynamically to the model changin,

So it would be possible to used the values in the change parametric table ?

If you right click on a dimension you can select "Toggle Driven" this allows a reference dimension to be shown and does not constrain it to a specific dimension. I hope this is what you want. Here is a video for clarity.

I think you missed the second part of the problem statement, "So it would be possible to used the values in the change parametric table?"

Let me take the liberty of rephrasing the design intent:

Demonstrate how to use that changing reference (driven) dimension as a variable in an equation for a driving dimension.

Although you can create a driven dimension as shown above there's no way to access the parameter in the parameters dialog. If you hover the mouse over the driven dimension it shows a parameter, "d1" for example but if you try and use it you get an error. Don't know when this feature will be finished so it's actually usefulSmiley Mad, seems to have been in this state for quite a while.

As far as I know you can't select a dimension to be used in user parameters. you can create a parameter to calculate that dimension and then have that parameter used in the new parameter. That is the only workaround that I am aware of. To clarify that a bit. Lets say you wanted to create a pattern on path of a feature on the perimeter of a rectangular block that is driven by user parameters. You would create a parameter to calculate the perimeter by multiplying the length and width parameter. then you would use that parameter of the perimeter in the parameter for the quantity of the feature. I hope this helps. It would be great and a huge time saver if we could select a reference dimension to be used for user parameters.

# xcurran Could you show me that work around in a screencast, cannot get it to work.

No problem. This video shows the parameters set up so that each one is referencing another and is calculated to show a value. So it shows the basic idea behind creating a calculation to find that reference dimension. Basically either using simple calculations or some trig you can make that calculation a parameter and use that later on.

# xcurran Thank you so much for the reply.

unfortunately it won't not solve my problem 😞

The idea is the same. Could you link the file that you are having an issue with?

There are a couple of requests an the Ideastation for the ability to use driven dimensions as parameters, vote them up more votes are supposed to get thing implemented quicker.
