Is it possible to have custom drawing views of assembly parts?

Hi all...

Third attempt at creating a post...

So I need a custom drawing view of an angled part but I can't make it happen when generated from an assembly... Works fine when generating drawing directly from the part. Any help greatly appreciated

Really need to know if this is possible otherwise it is back to Inventor...

That info is not available from an inserted design. If you expand the inserted design you'll see it's treated as a component so no custom views from the inserted part. All you can do is create the view in the assembly. If you're creating a drawing of the single part why not use the part file or do you need the view with the part in the assembly?

Thanks for your reply Mark,

I was kind of getting the feeling the custom view wasn't kept with the part when it was put into an assembly so thank you for confirming. The issue I have is that the drawing would ideally contain the assembly (with various views) and then normal to face elevations of the parts showing features which would be sent out for CNC routing... Just much easier and less issues if all of that info is on one drawing (or drawing sheets). We currently use Inventor but were looking to change to Fusion as a cost saving exercise...

Maybe a change in how we send drawings out is the way forward!

Thanks again

Something else you might need to check out is the simplified DWG\DXF file from Fusion are not flattened. Not sure if you planed sending out the DWGs and your subcontractor import and machine off the drawing. It's not a problem if they or you have a program that reads 3d DWGs and can flatten them but from what I've seen on this forum quite a lot of subcontractors have very basic software that only accepts 2d.

Made the screencast below to show how to flatten in Fusion but you lose dimensions and text.

Thank you for pointing that out, it's not something I had realised was an issue... I have just opened a Fusion DXF in AutoCAD and see what you mean. Inventor DXF files are flattened by default and the subcontractor normally opens them in their toolpathing software and picks out the geometry they need to toolpath. Thank you for the flattening demo, that could work as we could send them a PDF version with dims and annotation as they will need that info also.

Thanks again for your help with this

@sabadell  Was asking for feedback in this post for workflows that need a flat drawing export.
