Insert Mesh option missing

Not applicable

I would like to insert a mesh object into a Fusion 360 project.

Many articles on the site refer to an "Insert Mesh" menu option under modify:

http://fusion360.autodesk.com/learning/learning.html?caaskey=caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/ENU/Fusion-Com...

But it does not show up for me.

Am I doing something wrong?

I'm running the trial version of F360.

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Community!

This hung me up for a while too when I was first trying to upload meshes. The key note here is that in order to use meshes you need to be in a direct modeling environment as opposed to one that captures design history. There are two ways to do this, the first is to click "Create Form" in the create menu and this will bring you into the sculpt environment which is direct modeling or you can right click the top-level design in your Browser Tree (should just be the name of your project) and then select "Do Not Capture Design History". By doing either of these options you should then see Insert Mesh in your insert menu.

If this answered your question please feel free to mark this answer as a solution, that way others experiencing the same issue can benefit from this thread as well. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. I'm more than happy to help!

Thanks,

Thanks, James.

I actually was in the sculpt environment, but it still did not show up (see attached screen shot).

I did this by clicking create form and then the modify menu.

Still, no insert mesh option.

Hi @Anonymous,

Ah i see now. You must have been looking at an old post! The command to insert mesh has moved to our Insert Menu as opposed to our Modify menu. Look in there and I think it will be there.

Thanks,

Hi im not sure if anyone will see this as the last post was in 2015, I was hoping you could direct me to the insert mesh option. I am currently using Chromebook and have tried the 'do not capture design history' method however I am still unable to find it. If anyone has any solutions it would be greatly appreciated

thanks

this thread is very outdated.  it's no longer necessary to turn the timeline off.  you can find "insert mesh" in the "insert" pull down menu along the top of the screen towards the right side-

Hi thanks for your reply, I am still unable to see it. I've attached an image could you please have a look. this is what I see when the 'do not capture design history' option is clicked. when I have not enabled this it is the same just without the 'insert T-spline' option
thank you!

have you tried resetting toolbar customization?  Get to this by right clicking in the toolbar:

thank you for the suggestion I've just tried it and it's still not showing. I'm really puzzled as this is the first time I am in need of it. is there any other way to insert a mesh? what I'm trying to do is insert the mesh to try and make it a body. do I need to maybe contact Autodesk themselves if it might be a bug only with my account, I'm not too sure.

Thank you @jeff_strater @laughingcreek for your help today, very much appreciated. I have successfully managed to import these meshes into Fusion. I'm not sure how to really explain it here, but if anyone else has this problem you can reply to this and ill try my best to explain it to you.

@rajadRTEVQ  I think the clue here is you're using a chrome book so you're using the browser version of Fusion. The browser version runs on a remote desktop and has no access to your local drives so you need to upload files to your hub in a browser then in Fusion's data panel translate them into a Fusion design.
