Importing sketch doesn't have dimensions

I created a sketch in Fusion, then I wanted to use it on another project, so I just imported it into my project.  But all the dimensions are gone.  Is there any way to keep the dimensions?

If you put the sketch in a component, then copy the component to the new drawing, the dimensions will be copied as well.

So I can only import a sketch with dimensions into an empty design file?  That doesn't do me any good, but it's good to know.  I'm assuming it has something to do with the dimensions all having a name like d33 and avoiding a conflict with an existing d33.  But it would be easy to renumber all the dimensions upon importing.

You can copy a component from one drawing to any other open drawing.

Gonna piggy back on this thread since I'm having a (similar) frustrating issue.

Ok, so say I have a sketch which is NOT in a component (other than the base component, which doesn't seem to be a valid "re-usable" component").

How do I get that sketch into a component in the original drawing, so I can then copy the component? I don't see a way to do that. I've tried dragging the sketches into a new component, and they won't go.

You could make a new component, right click on the sketch, choose copy, then paste the sketch into the new component. Works while not using the timeline.

The sketch that cannot be dragged into a new component has parametric relationships to the root component that must be preventing that.

The root component is totally reusable, however. You can insert it into another design in it's entirety, and if the inserted copy needs to be independent, right click on it and Break Link.

@SGoldthwaite

When you insert a component to another design it is a read only copy. The sketch dimensions are not editable until you right click on the linked component and use Break Link.
