import a step file

Hello , I am trying to import a step file from Grab Cad into a fusion 360 new design page ,.

I can open the grab cad and download to my desk top as a step but can not get into fusion 360 . It opens in what looks like old version "inventor fusion" window

I would try to get file elsewhere but I can only find what i need from Grab Cad

Did you try to upload it in the data panel first then open the uploaded file?

I got it uploaded but have since forgotten how i did it but Thanks anyways for response .

You should be able to start a New Design From File and go to your HDD location and it should automatically upload into Fusion.

Now I have my step geometry open in a new design.

how do I copy the geometry into my design?

Right click on the file in the browser and insert into current design, or you can drag the file from the browser right into your open design.

Looks like I'm missing something since when I'm trying to insert imported STEP geometry in current design, Fusion shows warning message about linking to original design. Curiously that it works OK with designs originaly created in Fusion itself.
