Ideas for creating lofts for irregular oval shapes

Hi all, 

I'm trying to create irregular oval shapes as the base panel for a bike helmet design. The 2 techniques that I've come up with so far are as below:

1)  Perpendicular rails (on the left as you look at the image): I've created 2 connected arc profiles along the x axis. I've then created 3 perpendicular rails to guide the loft 

2)  45, 90 and 135 degree rails (on the right as you look at the image): I've created 2 connected arc profiles along the x axis the same as above. I've then created 3 rails on the 45, 90 and 135 degree angle to guide the loft

Looking to see if anyone has a better suggestion to complete a more accurate loft. Thanks in advance

I presume both these constructions haven't worked.

Loft to a point is not recommended for clean geometry.

Might be easier to Scale a sphere, non-uniform.

Split body and Shell.

Might help.
