I have  not used align before but have been watching lots of youtube videos how to align (or just move) an imported sketch so the orientation is correct.

Ideally I would like plane 1 on teh x-y co-ordinate plane and teh origin point (or z-y plane) on the little line in the shetch that joins teh mid-point of the 2 lines so it is roughly symmetrical either side of that plane. It probably doesn't matter too much how its' lined up it's just an example i cannot get it to work at all.

Please include a screencast or let me know what you clicked on to get it to work.

Many thanks

Ian

Thankyou Laughing Creek - I think this is a new feature which is why it was confusing me and not mentioned in any videos online. Perhaps when Autodesk add featues they should try to check it will not mess up normal workflows i.e. maybe add this feature but turn it off by default?

Ah OK yes I was just noticing the origin did not move so your method is ceate a new component then copy it and the origin is in the right place.

One more question - you do not move the sketch, I've tried by dragging the sketch from component 1 to the new component - all looks OK and the origin is still correct but if I then edit the same sketch the view is not aligned to the origin - it's at some strange angle I guess it may be referencing the old origin? I guess it's better to start again with a new sketch?
